Senator Arnie Roblan shares the story of Oregon’s lighthouses.
The senator from Coos Bay presents “beacons of hope”
August 29th at 1:00 pm in Columbia Hall’s Explore Oregon Showcase.”
From the tallest to the shortest, from the truly majestic to the absolutely remarkable, the 11 lighthouses that still remain along the Oregon coast have held their iconic value into the 21st century. They serve as beautiful tourist attractions as visitors take road trip along the Oregon coast. On the southern coast of we have Pelican Bay, Cape Blanco, Coquille River, Cape Arago, and Umpqua River. On the central coast you’ll find Cleft of the Rock, Heceta Head, Yaquina Bay, and Yaquina Head. And to the north there is Cape Meares and Tillamook Rock.
As George Bernard Shaw noted, I can think of no other edifice constructed by man as altruistic as a lighthouse. They were built only to serve, as a beacon of hope.
