Purchase $1 ride tickets for use only Monday, August 25 from 10am to 6pm with a coupon from Les Schwab Tires. Plus, receive $10 worth of game tickets for $8. Tickets will be sold from 10am-6pm and they can be used from 10am-10pm. Some games require more than one ticket. One coupon per person.

Oregon 150 kick-off has been scheduled for Friday, August 22nd in the afternoon (2 pm) with the Governor at the Fair to unveil the new Pendleton 150 Blanket, announce the celebration in 2008 at next year's Fair, and more.

Oregon Ag Day - August 30

Saturday August 30th, 2008 the Oregon State Fair will celebrate Oregon agriculture on Ag-Day with several fun and educational activities available for all fair goers to enjoy throughout the day. Don’t miss out on special events that will be available on Oregon State Fair’s Ag-Day:

Come to the Capital Press booth at the Oregon State Fair on Ag Day, Saturday, Aug. 30, and meet the people behind the West's Ag Weekly. Reporters, editors, designers and sales representatives will be there to answer questions about how the newspaper works.

Aspiring photographers will have the opportunity to learn from award-winning news photographer Mark Rozin at an hourlong workshop at 11 a.m. Rozin will draw on his years of experience taking pictures around the world to teach young photojournalists about composition. Participants and others will be able to submit their Oregon State Fair photos to the Capital Press website for all to see.

Children can compete for a prize in the Capital Press scavenger hunt. Participants will be given a list and let loose on the fair to seek out Farm Facts. All completed entries will be entered in a drawing for a $50 Target gift certificate.

  • The Oregon Auctioneers Association will be holding their final competition.
  • See a display of vintage farm equipment from ‘Powerland’ and see large farm equipment at each entrance gate.
  • The Oregon State Fair and Agri-Business Council will host a corn-shucking contest!
  • Ag-Business and related vendors will be on-site for the day to sell, educate, promote, and provide fair goers with fun give-away items.
  • For the kids, Mutton Bust’n, The Great American Petting Zoo & OMSI’s Animal Secrets in Les Schwab’s Familyville along with (live) duck races!
  • Animal shows during Ag-Day consist of a Long Horn show, a Swine show, and 4-H and FFA livestock shows.


Red Hat Day

Red Hat Day, August 26

It's a red letter day for Red Hatters with special events and activities, plus $3.00 Fair admission-if you're a Red or Pink Hat Lady wearing red or purple (two of the Red Hat Society's official colors). Women over age 60 are known as "Red Hatters" while those under 50 are called "Pink Hatters.

The Red Hat Society celebrated its 10th Birthday this year. This world-wide sisterhood has nearly 40,000 chapters across the U.S. in all 50 states and in more than 25 foreign countries.

The Craft Warehouse of Salem Fabulous Red Hat and Fancy Hat Adorn Contest - Tuesday, August 26, 2008 2:00pm - This is it ladies! OSU Day

OSU Day at the Oregon State Fair - August 24

Join us Sunday August 24th as we welcome Oregon State University students, alumni, fans and friends for OSU Day at the Oregon State Fair. Special gate admission prices will be offered for students, faculty/staff and alumni. Events will run throughout the day including a gate giveaway "Beaver Boulevard" and special Livestock exhibits.

Beaver Boulevard: 10am-6pm – Main Concourse

Visit Benny and get your photo taken with him on the main concourse!

  • Visit the Austin Family Business at their exhibit booth
  • The OSU bookstore will be on the main concourse selling OSU merchandise
  • Some of the university colleges ( College of Agriculture; College of Forestry, & OSU Marketing Department) will have information in this area and hand out OSU sports schedules
  • The OSU fly guys (big orange flags that fly way up in the air) will be on display this area
  • Alumni of OSU are encouraged to wear school colors!

Livestock/Horse Show Area

  • OSU will have a display in the Dairy area in the livestock pavilion; highlighting the OSU dairy program!
  • The OSU Polo team will be here to do a demonstration in the horse show stadium!

Veterans' Appreciation Days

Veterans' Appreciation Days, August 22-23

The Oregon State Fair will honor Veterans during the first 2 days of the Fair, August 22 & 23, 2008. Veterans will be admitted into the Fair free of charge with a voucher available in Vets News. This newsletter is available from the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs.

Traditional Veteran displays will be in the Jackman-Long Building throughout the duration of the Fair. In addition the Oregon State Fair will provide special activities during opening weekend including a military vehicle display down the main concourse, a parade through the grounds beginning at noon on Saturday August 23rd and a USO Style Show beginning at 1pm on the Comcast Center Stage, also on the 23rd.


Tribute to Veterans

Including a Recreated Bob Hope 60s USO Show - Performers scheduled to appear are Oregon's own The Brown Sisters, The Two Sisters Trio, Pastor Richard Probasco, Dennis Marcellino of The Tokens and Sly & The Family Stone, and The Dennis Mitchell Band with The Kingsmen (of *Louie, Louie* fame). At the end of the performances, there will be recognition of all Veterans in the audience. This is an emotional experience not to be missed. The show starts at 1:00 p.m. at the Comcast Stage. This event is sponsored by Spirit Mountain Casino and the Oregon State Fair, and hosted by Remembering America's Heroes, a non-profit organization based in Milwaukie, Oregon.


Parade

The 2nd annual Veterans Appreciation Parade features the Grand Ronde Tribe Honor Guard, the Oregon Patriot Guard Motorcycle Riders, the Oregon Motorcycle Veterans Association, and the Oregon Historical Military Society with their vehicles. Veterans are invited to walk in the parade, which is approximately 1/2 mile in length. The parade starts at 12:30 p.m. Please report to the yellow gate at least 15 minutes before the parade starts.
